Looking for some teenage fiction that's gritty, contemporary and realistic?

If so, you can download SAFE for under a pound in the UK, and for just over a dollar in the US.  Bargain or what?

Here are the links. Go on, give it a go - and do let me know what you think.

I'v been neglecting to update my blog for ages, as I've been working hard on writing my second book.  It's almost, almost finished now, and I'm looking forward to it being published - one way, or indeed the other, - in the not too distant future.

I was delighted to receive an email a couple of weeks ago from a teacher  in Canada. She told me that her school had bought a class set of SAFE for their students to read and study, and she enquired if there were any teaching resources available to accompany the text.  So, obliging as ever, I have now produced a comprehensive, differentiated set of resources that are available for educational establishments to purchase.  Please email me through the contact page if you require any further information.

Have you read SAFE? If so, please let me know what you thought - I'd love to hear from you.

What I've realised with my new fiction blog is that I don't have that much to say really!  So I'll pass on a few things other people have told me instead.
Some young people who have read SAFE and kindly responded to my request about recommending other teenage fiction, have enjoyed the following books:

The Noughts and Crosses Trilogy by Malorie Blackman - Noughts and Crosses, Knife Edge and Check Mate.  (The latest one, Double Cross, got mixed reviews though)
Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko
Nicholas Dane by Melvin Burgess
Cirque Du Freak and the whole Darren Shan series by Darren Shan
The Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer seemed to have a Marmite response - with readers either absolutely loving it, or completely hating it!

These were the books that young readers talked about most by far, and I'll add other recommendations as they arise.

HAVE YOU GOT 'SAFE' IN YOUR SCHOOL?
More and more schools are buying class sets of SAFE and studying it as part of their English curriculum.  If yours hasn't, why don't you suggest it to your English teacher?

Hello all - and welcome back to my new teenage fiction blog.  I've received some lovely emails this week from people who have read SAFE and thought it 'rocked!' So, a public thanks for these.  Also, I really appreciate the 5* reviews that the book has received on Amazon and Waterstones; all you readers/reviewers are great!

As you might know, I've called SAFE 'the book for teenagers who don't read' and many parents have supported this by telling me that their teenagers who don't usually look at a book at all, have loved reading SAFE. This has lead to many people enquiring if I have written any other books, to which the answer at the moment is unfortunately, 'No!' I have loads of ideas, but just no time...

Anyway - what I'd like (apart from a publisher to come along and pay me to write full-time!) is for any young people who have really enjoyed a particular book to let me know here. Then at least while I'm waiting to get my next book written, I can recommend other stories that might be interesting for teenagers who liked SAFE.  Please either leave a comment here, or email me by going to the 'contact me' page.

Thanks in advance, Kate Hanney

Thanks to everyone who has bought SAFE and especially those people who have emailed to tell me how much they've enjoyed reading it.  I'm delighted that so many young people are "lovin' readin'" the book and that it is appealing to such a wide range of people - everyone from young teenagers to great grandparents are telling me how fantastic it is!

The reviews of SAFE on Amazon and Waterstones websites are excellent and I'm really grateful to the people who have taken the time to write them.

Please keep the questions and comments coming; I love receiving them and I promise to reply.

Cheers, Kate
